Doha: Indian Sports Centre (ISC), under the patronage of the Embassy of India, launched the Year of Sports campaign last month.
In the past month, several attractive virtual tournaments and free online yoga and zumba sessions were conducted to promote sports activities and a healthy lifestyle among the Qatar community.
As part of the ‘Year of Sports’ programme ‘Under Arm Ball Pass Challenge’ was conducted recently. An online open competition was held for volleyball in which a total of 38 participants from Qatar, Kuwait, and India registered for the event. Participants had sent video entries in the qualification round, where 20 eligible entries were shortlisted for the final round.
The final round competition was held on the Zoom platform, where all the candidates competed. Capt. Atla Mohan, Defense Attache at Embassy of India, and Coordinating Officer ISC inaugurated the competition.
Hassan Chougule, President Indian Sports Centre, announced the Winners and Runners. Anusree from Bengaluru won the challenge and received a gift voucher worth $100, whereas Archana from Palakkad was the runner-up and received a gift voucher worth $50.
Sharaf P Hameed, Vice President (Corporate and Government Relations and Sponsorship), applauded the winners and participants and spoke about the significance of sports and fitness in daily life.
Manoj Kumar, Mohamed Najeeb, and Ashik Mahe were the judges. Nisha Agarwal, Srinivasan, Safeer Rahman & Arun Kumar from the ISC managing committee supported the event.
