Doha: Ooredoo Qatar has warned citizens and residents against fraudulent schemes on emails and websites soliciting for personal information.
In a video posted on social media, Ooredoo Qatar said: "We’ve seen a rise in the number of counterfeit emails and websites lately. Remember we won’t EVER send you an unsolicited request for personal information through email, or via pop-up windows on a website."
To stay vigilant against these fraud schemes, Ooredoo reminds everyone to never share your One-Time Password (OTP) or bank card details.
"OTP is a One-time Password used to verify your identity. Scammers can access your account and make transactions with your OTP," Ooredoo said.
Ooredoo also affirmed that it will never ask for this information over the phone or via messaging apps. It also urged everyone to be cautious of unknown or fake URLs asking for information.
"Verify the URL in your web browser address bar, don’t ever click links on an email purporting to be from us," Ooredoo added.
At the event of receiving suspicious calls or messages, Ooredoo urged everyone to report it through its hotline 111 or official email [email protected]. Citizens and residents can also report fraud through its WhatsApp number 4414 1111.
