Algiers: Algerian prosecutors have charged four people with criminal responsibility for a bus accident that killed 18 passengers, local media said on Tuesday citing a judiciary statement.

The bus fell off a bridge and into a river in the capital Algiers on Friday, killing 18 people and leaving 25 others injured, authorities said.

Investigators said the accident was the result of technical issues, but none were recorded in an inspection report.

A court on Tuesday ordered the arrest of the vehicle inspector, who was charged with "deliberately issuing a falsified technical report", and the owner of the bus for using the report and "endangering lives", the judiciary said.

The driver and a ticket collector were charged with "involuntary manslaughter and injury" and "endangering passengers' lives", it added.
