Kuala Lumpur: The Statistics and Planning Authority (SPA) and the Department of Statistics - Malaysia (DOSM) have agreed to boost cooperation in the field of building smart databases using machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
This came during the visit of SPA delegation, headed by SPA President’s Assistant Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi, to the DOSM, in order to review their national experience in building the central statistical database, learn about the data sources and the technology used in data storage and processing.
Al Nuaimi praised DOSM for providing the unique opportunity for the SPA experts to learn from the Malaysian experience related to building and managing statistical databases, and to benefit from the Malaysian experience in building a business register that includes economic data for operating establishments. The Qatari delegation was briefed on the existing preparations to benefit from big data as a new source of official statistics, which is characterized by the huge volume, diversity and availability.
The agreement between the two parties comes to activate cooperation in the field of building smart databases and analyzing their outputs using data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, in order to accelerate the completion of national projects, especially the third national development strategy projects, and to provide investors and academic researchers with the necessary data for their work to help make sound decisions.
