DOHA: This season's final Arabic language book discussion, organised by Qatar National Library (QNL), focused on issues of religion, philosophy, culture, ethics, art and drama highlighted by author Ali Izetbegovic in his book 'Islam Between East and West'.
The general public, QNL-registered members, students and Qatari book lovers participated in the discussion held at Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Centre within Education City, the Press Office of Qatar Foundation said here on Monday .
Participants discussed how the author raises Islam and examined his approach, and how consistent it is with the objective mentioned at the beginning of the book which says, "To have a true understanding of the world, we must know the real sources of the ideas that govern this world and know their meanings."
The book discussion began with a short excerpt read aloud where the author states, "The book is an attempt at the translation of Islam into the language which the new generation speaks and understands."
Participants discussed issues like Islam's position on the conflict between spirituality and the religion, and materialism and the scientific explanation of Quran verses.
The gathering exchanged ideas on the book's issues relating to human origin such as creation versus evolution, and the issues of culture, civilisation, arts, ethic, history and drama.
Mohammed Yousef Adas translated Izetbegovic's book into Arabic.
