Al Sadd club’s home ground Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium will host the final of the prestigious Amir Cup on May 14, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced yesterday.
The QFA said the date and venue of the title clash of country’s most popular football tournament was fixed after consultation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC). In the semifinals to be played on May 3, Al Rayyan will take on Al Duhail at Abdullah Bin Khalifa while d e f e n d i n g champions Al Sadd will clash with Al Arabi at Jassim Bin H a m a d Stadium. Both the matches will kick off at 4pm.

The semifinal line-up of the 49th edition of the tournament was decided earlier this month. Al Rayyan entered the semifinal after defeating Al Kharaitiyat while Al Duhail qualified with a win over Al Shamal. Al Sadd knocked Al Gharafa out for a place in the semi-final while Al Arabi overcame Al Sailiya in the quarter-final. Meanwhile, QFA has urged fans to get vaccinated for COVID-19 to enjoy the atmosphere of eagerly-awaited clash, like it used to be before the pandemic. It added, that detail of ticket sales and precautionary health measures will be announced later.
The final of the 48th edition of the Amir Cup last year – played on Qatar National Day (December 18) was a blockbuster, with Al Sadd clinching the title after a thrilling battle with Al Arabi. The final also marked the inauguration of the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, the fourth FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venue to be officially launched. Al Sadd are the most successful side of Amir Cup, winning the coveted title 17 times.
