Over 1,000 students participate in Qatar National Robot Olympiad

DOHA: The winners of the 10th Qatar National Robot Olympiad (NRO) 2018 were announced yesterday in the presence of Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi.

More than 1,000 students, mainly from government and private schools, participated in the Olympiad. The announcement was made during the concluding ceremony at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) yesterday.

In the category of robot competition for primary schools for girls, Al Bayan School bagged first prize followed by Al Khansa School. Zainab bint Jahash School received the third prize.

In the competition of primary school for boys, Al Muthanna bin Haritha School bagged first prize. Abdullah bin Zaid and Ali bin Abdullah Schools bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

In free robot contest, Salahuddin Al Ayubit School won first position, followed by Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib Preparatory School and Ahmad bin Hambal Secondary School obtaining the third prize.

In the following-the-lines competition, Al Tawon Primary School for Girls, Al Khansa Primary School and Khalid bin Walid Preparatory School bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Al Yarmuk Preparatory School won the  first prize in Sumo robot competition, Mesaid Primary School and Al Khor Secondary School for Girls got the second and third prizes respectively.

In FLL robot competition, Khalid bin Ahmad Preparatory School, Abu Bakar Al Siddique School and Ahmad bin Hanbal Secondary School got first, second and third prizes respectively.

Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi visited pavilions of all categories of the championship to see the latest innovations of the students in robotic science. 

The Minister appreciated the efforts of students in designing and programming the robots.

Fawziya Al Khater, Assistant Under-Secretary for Educational Affairs, said that Qatar is working to build a knowledge-based economy for sustainable development therefore, the Ministry has given great importance to all modern sciences including robotics to build national cadres to utilise latest technology to achieve Qatar Natioal Vision 2030.
