Doha: The Souq Waqif Equestrian Festival 2019 began yesterday and will continue for the next six days. It is organised by the Private Engineering Office. A total of 142 horses took part in yesterday's Arabian horses competition. Ponies aged two to three years and horses aged four to six years held their qualifiers.
The Organizing Committee has allocated big prizes. First place in each category will get a gold medal and QR100,000, second place will get a silver medal and QR70,000, the third place will get a bronze medal and a prize of QR40, 000.
The committee also assigned international judges from Europe and US, with a total of six judges for each of the two competitions, which are set to be very competitive this year. The horses auction was also rescheduled, with 83 in total participating. The majority of the horses were Arabian, in addition to four horses from Umm Qarn and others from Souq Waqif.
Abdulrahman Al Naama, who oversees the conference, confirmed that the festival was extended to Wednesday due to the weather conditions on Friday. He added that all events will continue as they are according to the schedule announced. He added that postponement of the auction will not affect the festival since the auction was scheduled for only one day.
Souq Waqif Equestrian Festival has two competitions this year as compared to one last year. The change was made by the Private Engineering Office's organizing committee to meet the demands of fans and horse owners.
