Ambassador of Poland hails development of relations with Qatar

Ambassador of Poland to Qatar H E Janusz Janke (pictured) has hailed the political and economic relations between his country and Qatar, describing them as strong and pointing out that the two countries are seeking to make them stronger and more meaningful in the coming months.  

He pointed out, in statements to Qatar News Agency on the occasion of National Day, that 2019 has been a very important year for the bilateral relations between the two countries, as they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He stressed that Poland and Qatar enjoy a very close relationship in the economic and defense sectors, 

The Ambassador said that in 2018 the volume of Polish-Qatari trade reached almost $1bn, and the estimates for 2019 look even more promising. He explained that since 2009, the two countries had an agreement concerning the purchase of Qatari LNG. Currently Poland receives more than 2 million tons annually, a move which would help both Poland and Qatar achieve the goals to diversity their energy partnerships. 

He also said that due to growing presence of Qatari capital in Poland, numerous important investments happened in Warsaw’s real estate market.

The Ambassador highlighted the successful partnership between Poland and Qatar in the aviation sector , as Qatar Airways opened its Customer Service Centre in 2008 in Wroclaw and has launched two or three flights a day from Doha to the Warsaw Chopin Airport in 2017 as part of the carriers strategy to strengthen its presence in the region. 

Furthermore, he explained how the Polish-Qatari cultural co-operation flourished over years, adding that in October and November of this year, the citizens of  Qatar had a chance to taste some of the Polish best music at the European Jazz Festival. “I strongly believe our relationship will grow stronger in the coming year,” he stated. 

He expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar and its people for a very hospitable welcome to him and almost 1000 Polish citizens residing here.  

He also praised the remarkable transformation of the State of Qatar, adding that the Republic of Poland congratulates the people of Qatar on the ongoing successful implementation of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the improving performance of the public and private sector institutions. 

“We have welcomed the modernisation of the labour law, the achievements in diversifying the economy, further reforms in other sectors to attract foreign direct investments, most importantly, the Qatar’s balanced and engaged involvement at the international stage,” said the Ambassador.

He said that Poland has been particularly thankful to Qatar for its participation in the Warsaw Process which commenced with the conference held in the capital of Poland in February 2019 and has since been continued in the expert-level working groups.
