DOHA: Minister of Municipality and Environment (MME) H E Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie participated yesterday in planting trees at Al Masrah Park in Doha City on Corniche Street.
As part of the ongoing campaign ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ Campaign to ‘Plant Million Trees’, 25 young men and women from the ‘Generation Amazing Festival 2019’ organised by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, participated in planting 50 trees at Al Masrah Park, as part of the works of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar, implemented by the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The event was attended by Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al-Muhannadi, President of Ashghal; Hassan Abdullah Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC); Mohammed Ali Al Khouri, Director of Public Parks at MME; Eng. Jamal Matar Al Nuaimi, Director of Doha Municipality; Eng. Mohammed Arqoub Al Khalidi, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar; and Moza Al Mohannadi, Director of Marketing and Communications of the Generation Amazing Programme of SC.
Al Masrah Park is surrounded by Qatar Post from the Northern side, Qatar National Theater from the Southern side, Corniche Street from the Eastern side and Majlis Al Taawon Street from the Western side.The name of the park (Al Masrah) was chosen in appreciation of the Qatar National Theater adjacent to it.
The park represents a point of connection between the eastern side of the Corniche Street through the tunnel and the metro station located in the heart of the park as well as the Council Street. Al Masrah Park design is inspired by the features that surrounds it, where sharp lines and right angles were used to match the streets and adjacent elements, and a main axis was implemented between the two main facades of the garden and from it branches paths leading to different parts of the garden.
The park has an area of 108,000 square metres and the grass covers about 64,000 square metresof this area. It also includes 16 types of different local and international trees, numbering up to 850 trees.
The park was designed to include three main sections: Entertainment Areas; including seating areas, restaurants and kiosks to provide food and beverages for visitors. The second part includes areas for sports activities: including pedestrian, jogging & cycle paths which are made from recycled rubber and local Qatari materials. As for the third part, it includes green areas: shaded and non-shaded spaces for families which are suitable for children’s games, in addition to the green hills to make the general view enjoyable and comfortable. Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, Ashghal President, noted that Al Masrah Park is a distinctive new addition and one of the important projects that Ashghal is implementing in partnership with other entities concerned with promoting awareness and environmental initiatives.
He added that he is delighted with the participation from ‘Generation Amazing Festival’ in initiatives and works that contribute to increasing the green areas in the country, as this is a true reflection of the unified goals of all partners in these accomplishments, as well as the local community participates from all segments, especially the younger ones, with the same enthusiasm.
Hassan Abdullah Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said: “Attention to environmental subjects and dedicating the efforts of many prominent entities in the country to implement projects that promote and protect the environment is a measure of the development and progress of any country and it reflects its society’s culture.”
Mohammed Ali Al-Khouri, Director of Public Parks at MME said: “Al Masrah Park is an important addition for public parks in Qatar especially with its strategic location, and we look forward to working on more of these projects that will achieve balanced development.”
