NEW DELHI: At least two aircraft and a chopper, used by the Chief Minister of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, were gutted in a major fire which broke out at the state capital Hyderabad's old airport late Monday night, a senior police official said Tuesday.

"There were at least two explosions as the massive fire engulfed parts of the airport at Begumpet. The two planes and the helicopter were damaged beyond repair, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.

Some 10 fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them hours to bring the blaze under control. So far, there are no reports of any casualty," the official said, on condition of anonymity.

However, police have ruled out any sabotage, he added.

State Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has ordered a probe into the incident. (QNA)
