Doha: Rubina Chhetry turned in a skipper’s performance and guided Nepal to a convincing 61-run triumph over hosts Qatar in the second and penultimate Women’s T20 International and seal the series 2-0.

At the Asian Town Stadium, Nepal rode a sparkling all-round display from Chhetry. First, the captain propelled them to a 129 for six with a responsible half-century. Then she emerged as the second best bowler with two for 12 to set up the big win. Chhetry added 56 runs for the third wicket with opener Kabita Kunwar, which took them to a safe-looking total. Chhetry’s 48-ball knock contained a six and four boundaries. Kunwar also batted fluently to get 31 off 30 balls, including two sixes. Angeline Mare impressed with two for 28. Aleena Khan, Sabeeja Panayan and Saachi Dhadwal shared three scalps.

Qatar captain Aysha grafted in to top-score for her team with 24 off 32 balls. She hit two fours. Kerry Pounsett added 15 off 18 balls with two boundaries.

Nepal’s Saraswati Kumari proved the destroyer in chief as she removed four players, conceding only eight runs. Chhetry had two for 12, while Sabnam Rai, Sangita Rai and Kabita Joshi took one wicket apiece.

Today, the two teams will play the third and final T20I before the visitors will leave for the UAE to compete in the Asia qualifying event for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
