In his Doha debut, internationally acclaimed Polish pianist Wojciech Waleczek commanded an adoring audience at Qatar National Convention Center as he performed the enchanting First Piano Concerto by Fryderyk Chopin along with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday.
Co-organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Doha and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert was held to commemorate the Independence Day of Poland which falls on November 11 as well as mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Poland and the State of Qatar celebrated this year.
Ambassador of Poland to Qatar, Janusz Janke, said the concert was part of the Embassy’s efforts to promote bilateral ties between Poland and Qatar in the field of culture.
“In 2019 the Embassy has undertaken many initiatives to bring Poland and Qatar closer together, also in the field of culture. Just to name a few, on November 7 the leading Polish jazz band, Artur Dutkiewicz Trio, gave a memorable performance at the 6th European Jazz Festival. And now we have brought to Doha an extraordinary Polish pianist, Wojciech Waleczek, to showcase a very emotional composition by the Polish national hero, Fryderyk Chopin,” said Janke.
The Ambassador went on to thank “Katara Cultural Village and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra for their outstanding support and commitment” in presenting the two recent events.
On his first concert in Doha, Waleczek said that he “enjoyed greatly the cooperation with the Mr. Andreas Weiser, the conductor, and the highly professional artists of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra,” adding he will for long remember “the vivid response by the audience applauding after the concert.”
Wojciech Waleczek is highly recognized internationally and has been pursuing a robust career touring concert halls in Europe and other countries such as Jordan, Tunisia, Palestine, Algeria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Argentine, Canada and the USA, among others.
Winner of several prestigious competitions, Waleczek is has received many accolades including the “Decoration of Honor Meritorious for Polish Culture” from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2017 and the Honorary Badge for Merits for the Silesian Voivodeship from the Silesian Council in 2018.
