DOHA: A prominent lawyer said yesterday that the Traffic Department had urged people to take photographs of vehicles involved in accidents and send them to Metrash2 in such a way that only the vehicle and its number plate are shown and not people — the victims — as that would breach their privacyYusuf Al Zaman said people misunderstood that and instead began taking photographs of accidents in ways that breached people’s privacy.
Pictures of accidents can still be taken but in ways that people’s privacy is not breached, he said in remarks to this newspaper yesterday.
The rules apply to social media as well and to prevent any misuse, the act of taking photographs of accidents showing victims without the consent of their relatives and sharing them, is being criminalised, he added.
Showing accident victims in photographs is also not desirable because such pictures can cause trauma to viewers and offend the relatives of the victims, said the lawyer. The Peninsula/QNA
