DOHA: An operetta is among the events to be organised by Katara and the Hungarian embassy to introduce Hungarian culture to the country.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, said a Hungarian operetta will be held on November 17 to introduce the audience to new aspects of the Hungarian culture and art.
He was speaking at a meeting with Hungarian Ambassador Elter Istvan yesterday.
They discussed strengthening cultural ties by organising events and activities to spread awareness about Hungarian culture in Qatar.
He said Katara is keen to host diverse activities organised in line with its vision of bridging the gap among people and enriching the principles of openness on cultures and civilisations.
Translation of novels
Meanwhile, Dr Al Sulaiti said the winning entries at the inaugural Katara Prize for Arabic Novel will be translated to languages, including Chinese.
“China is a great nation that dates back to the dawn of civilisations and Chinese are good readers.

“The novels will be translated into English, French, Hindi, Spanish and Chinese,” he said during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Youzhen Gao.
Al Sulaiti added that co-operation between Katara and the Chinese embassy is continuing.
Katara has hosted Chinese events such as the Chinese Week, the global acrobat ballet, and Nutcracker the Acrobat Ballet from Shanghai.
He expressed keenness to hold Chinese events in the future and highlighted Katara’s role in building bridges between cultures.
Gao said China is looking forward to boosting cultural co-operation with Arab states in general. With regard to translation, he expressed readiness to provide qualified translators and said there are many Chinese senior translators who have rendered many publications into Arabic.
Confirming China’s keenness to boost cultural co-operation with Qatar, he noted that 2016 will be Qatar-China Year of Culture.
