Doha: Palestine Remix, one of Al Jazeera Media Network’s leading digital projects, has launched a competition for making remixes in English and Arabic.
You have the chance to participate, with your created remix of 10-minute maximum length, and win a 4k digital SLR camera.
The winning entry will be selected by a jury of filmmakers based on the originality and strength of the idea using as many documentaries as possible. Results will be announced on November 3.
Participating remixes created by mixing and matching segments of Palestine Remix documentaries will be available to view on the home page of the Palestine Remix website, alongside a new design that enables visitors to comment, recommend and share favourite remixes.
Rawan Damen, Senior Producer, Al Jazeera, and head of the project, said: “The cutting-edge technology we are using allows our website visitors to build endless remixes.
“Any remix you make could be accessed via a unique URL you can save.
“The remix can be enhanced over time and, when ready, shared via social media or submitted for the open competition”.
Palestine Remix is the world’s foremost interactive project on Palestine. Users of the website can search for scenes using a film’s full transcript. There is also an interactive database of over 530 Palestinian villages destroyed by Israel during the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948.
The website hosts a complete interactive timeline of major historical events since 1799 along with drone images for Palestinian historical cities, definitions for frequently-used terminology and misused political terms and quizzes, a fun way to check your knowledge on Palestine.
A year after launch, over two million people visited the website and around 8,000 remixes were made in Arabic and English.
All content, including the documentaries, is available in Arabic, English, Turkish and Bosnian. Palestine Remix was awarded the 2015 Technical Innovation and the 2015 Best Digital Team of the Year by the Online Media Awards in London.
It was also honoured for video remixes/mashups at Webby Awards in New York and Site of the Day by Adobe Muse in 2014.
