Santiago: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit central Chile on Thursday.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicenter of the earthquake was 34 km southeast of the city of Rancagua, the capital of O'Higgins Region, and it occurred at a depth of 103 km.
There were no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake.
Chile is located in an area called the Ring of Fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean, where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
