DOHA: The head of the National Service Academy Commander Saeed Hamad Al Nuaimi said that the new National Service Law was unique even at the international level because it includes the physical and scientific rebuilding of those drafted by defining the period of military training and academic education.
Al Nuaimi explained, at a meeting to discuss law No. 5 of 2018 on national service, that the law was reflected the saying that Qatar deserves the best from its people, expressing hope that the Qatari youth can contribute in building their nation and achieving their security.
He added that those drafted in the national service will learn a lot of skills and will pursue a lot of personal interests as well as achieving national interests. He pointed out that the national service academy will begin on September 1 until August 15 of 2019.
He also said that the programme is comprised of two main sections; the first is from September to March and focuses on the military training and all its different aspects. An example of those would be improving physical condition, as well as gaining skills such as swimming, self-defence Secretary of National Traffic Safety Committeee, and shooting among others. The second section will be academic, where those drafted can receive academic courses in Qatar University, Community College, and North Atlantic. Those courses have credits that can be transferred to the three educational institutions.
Al Nuaimi noted that the National Service Law is an investment in Qatari youth aspiring to serve their country and achieve the security and development of their community, in addition to gaining many important life skills.
On the postponement of national service for students who are on the Amiri List or Qatar Petroleum or Qatar Airways and others, Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Defense Abdullah Eissa Al Kuwari said that article 20 of the law state that the postponement is for a year, renewable until those in question finish their education or reach 28 years of age.
This is true for those on the Amiri list or who were unconditionally accepted in a med school accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. As for students sponsored by Qatar Petroleum or Qatar Airways, they must apply to the Academy within the 60-day period provided for in the Article and submit their documents in order for their requests to be processed.
