Juan Manuel Lillo
Doha: Spaniard Juan Manuel Lillo will replace Javi Gracia as head coach at Al Sadd next season, the QNB Stars League champions announced yesterday.
Lillo, who has enjoyed an illustrious coaching career for over 40 years, yesterday left Premier League champion Manchester City where he served as assistant coach under Pep Guardiola.
"OFFICIAL: Juan Manuel Lillo will be the head coach of #AlSadd, starting from the 2022-23 season. He will reach Qatar on Sunday before being presented at a press conference later," the Wolves posted on their official Twitter handle.
Lillo started his coaching career at Amaroz KE back in 1981 and later managed top sides such as Real Sociedad, Vissel Kobe and Qingdao Huanghai before moving to Manchester City in June 2020.
He also served as the assistant coach at the Chile national team as well as Sevilla.
Lillo, 56, played an important role behind the scenes as Manchester City lifted two Premier League titles and a League Cup.
“My time at Manchester City has been one of the most enjoyable periods of my career. To work alongside Pep, his backroom staff and this group of players has been a pleasure and I hope to have contributed in a small way to the fantastic success we have enjoyed on the pitch," Lillo said of his time at City ahead of his departure to Qatar.
“I wish the club the very best and hope they can achieve all of their ambitions moving forwards.”
