Doha: Former President of Egypt Mohamed Mursi died yesterday at the age of 67 after he fainted in the court following a hearing, Egypt’s state television reported.
Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a tweet yesterday, expressed his deep sorrow for his sudden death saying: “We received the news of the sudden death of former President Dr. Mohamed Mursi with deep sorrow.. I extend my condolences to his family and to the brotherly people of Egypt.." Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Mursi, who was the first democratically elected President in Egypt’s modern history, had been in jail since he was toppled by the military in 2013.
State television said Mursi, was in court for a hearing on charges of espionage emanating from suspected contacts with the Palestinian group Hamas.
