Winners of ‘Arm Wrestling Competition’ organised by Safari.
Doha: Safari Qatar, a leading hypermarket group in Doha, organised an ‘Arm Wrestling Competition’ on the occasion of Qatar National Sport Day (NSD).
Launched in 2017, Safari’s ‘Arm Wrestling Competition’ tournament, season 4 was held on February 14, at Safari Mall, Abu Hamour. Due to COVID-19 it was not possible in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
There were contestants from countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nepal, the Philippines, Syria, Jordan, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Yemen, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Romania, Afghanistan and Ukraine. In order to avoid the rush like in previous years, the contestants were provided online registration facility in advance.
Over 200 applications were received in two categories, for those weighing less than 80kg and those weighing more than 80kg.
In both categories, the first prize was QR2,500, the second prize was QR1,500, and the third was QR1,000. The referees were Mujeeb Rahman and Joju Komban.
The competition started at Safari Mall at 5pm and lasted till 11.30pm. In the competition held for people above 80kg, Davis Chinei Akadi ( Nigerian) won the first prize while the second and third prizes were won by Indians — the second prize was won by Firoz from Kasaragod, and the third prize was won by Vishal.
Heba Maqbool won the first prize in the competition for under 80kg, while the second and third prizes were won by Indians — the second prize was won by Linto, and the third prize by Jobi.
