The Premium Qatari Vegetables and Qatar Farms programmes achieved significant sales during the year 2020 compared to previous years.
The sales of premium vegetables reached 4,565 tonnes compared to 2,740 tonnes in 2019, an increase of about 66 percent, while the sales of Qatar Farms for the 2020 season were about 19,000 tonnes compared to 11,506 tonnes in 2019, an increase of about 64 percent.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment launched these programmes with the cooperation and coordination of Ministry of Commerce and Industry to improve local marketing operations and help the farmer market their production, as they provided the opportunity for the Qatari farmers to display their local production of Qatari high quality vegetables with affordable prices for the consumer without an intermediary, nor paying the farmer any financial commissions in return.
The Premium Qatari Vegetable programme was launched in January 2017 with the participation of 16 farms in Al Meera consumption complexes only. As a result of the success of the programme, it was launched in other consumer malls in December 2017 and the number of the participating farms rose to 150.
Qatar Farms programme was launched in March 2018 with the participation of four major consumer malls and achieved good sales during this period amounting to about 1,969 tonnes of vegetables.
