Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the University of Calgary (UCQ) have signed a new five-year cooperation agreement to mark the 10 years of partnership between Qatar and the University that granting bachelor’s degrees in nursing.

The agreement was signed by H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Ali Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Dr Elizabeth Cannon, President of the University of Calgary, Canada. The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education H E Dr Ibrahim Al Nuaimi said that the agreement will achieve the goals set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Health Strategy, adding that the Ministry of Education and the UCQ, which has had a positive impact on the education and health care systems in the country.

The Vice-President (Academic) of the University of Calgary Dr Dru Marshall expressed her delight that the university will contribute to the rehabilitation of leaders in nursing in support of the health and welfare of the people of Qatar.

“The State of Qatar has demonstrated great leadership and keenness on the welfare of its citizens, which makes us proud to be part of the progress of the education and healthcare sector in the country.” She added.

UCQ has opened its doors in 2007 and provides leadership development programmes for nurses to work within Qatar’s healthcare system. The University also has a total of 450 nurses, who have a wide range of expertise in the academic and clinical fields to raise the health level of the Qatari society. It also leads scientific and medical research within areas that are in line with Qatar’s priorities.
