Doha: Teach for Qatar launched a national campaign entitled “Be a Teacher”, in which Qatari dignitaries are invited to teach in Qatar’s private and public schools.
Through this campaign, the organisation aims to promote awareness of the educational system, highlight the role of the teacher in society and shed light on the importance of this important profession and the benefits of academic achievement in various disciplines. It also highlights the difficulties and challenges faced by the teacher in the classroom, in addition to presenting the participants in the campaign as an example to the students to inspire and motivate them to join this profession and to create a conscious and educated generation that contributes effectively to the building of this homeland.
Founder and Chairperson of Teach for Qatar and CEO of Qatar Foundation H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada Chairman and CEO of Al Faisal Holdings Sheikh Faisal bin Qasim Al Thani, and a number of dignitaries and prominent leaders of major institutions in the country are taking part in the campaign.
On this occasion, Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani said the “Be a Teacher” campaign embodies the firm belief that education is the real gateway to building society and that teachers are the true creators of change. Sheikha Hind added that the supreme mission of teachers goes beyond the task of equipping students with knowledge and science to build values and behaviour and prepare a conscious, educated generation to contribute effectively to the development and giving process in this country, stressing that strengthening the status of the teacher on the foundations of love and honour and reverence for their efforts is the duty of society as a whole.
For his part, Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah spoke about his experience in this campaign and teaching mathematics in a middle school, saying that his participation in “Be a Teacher” campaign is a great responsibility, and that this experience has reinforced his sense of the importance of this profession and the different challenges facing the teacher, especially how to deliver the information easily to students.
Stressed the importance of patriotism, and diligence in working for the protection and advancement of this country, adding that young people are the wealth of the nation and people who cannot protect their country do not worth living in it, and Qatar needs all its people to work in all fields to ensure the country’s development.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Teach for Qatar Nasser Yousuf Al Jaber, at a press conference, called on graduates and professionals, whether citizens or residents, to join ‘Leadership Journey’ program provided by the organisation to develop the teaching and leadership skills of its members in the belief that education is the essential element for the advancement of the country, stressing that the organization has contributed to the graduation of generations of conscious teachers capable of making positive change.
Al Jaber pointed out that the number of members of “Tech for Qatar” in schools currently reaches 53 participants and graduates who have chosen to continue the educational system in Qatar after completing the “Leadership Journey”, noting that the number of partner schools with the organization is 29 primary and preparatory schools.
He pointed out that the Teach for Qatar seeks to raise the status of the teacher in society and pay tribute to their noble role in upbringing tomorrow’s generations by attracting the best cadres of graduates and professionals and qualifying them to work in public schools for two years within the program to develop teaching and leadership skills, pointing out that the organization aims through the “Be a Teacher” campaign to change the perception of the Qatari society concerning the profession of education and shed light on the importance of teacher’s role and to attract enthusiastic leadership cadres to this profession.
Teach for Qatar is a non-governmental organization working to qualify graduates and national and resident professionals to work in public schools for two years through a program to develop teaching and leadership skills. The training and support program, known as “Leadership Journey”, provides participants with leadership skills that they can use to enhance their chances of success in any career path they choose after they have completed their enrollment.
Teach for Qatar was founded by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani to be part of the solution to some of the challenges facing students in Qatar, and it is the latest of 32 members of the global Teach for All network.
