Women in business achieving success

DOHA: Despite challenges women in business are achieving success, said speakers at the Fifth Annual Qatar International Businesswomen forum which kicked-off yesterday here. Speakers highlighted the rapidly growing significance of businesswomen in highly globalised economy.
“The Qatari woman has proved her efficiency in the economic field, in business and investment projects which were reserved for men for a long time. They are now working successfully in financial, real estate, telecommunication, energy and other sectors,” said Aisha Al Fardan, Vice-Chairman of Qatar Businesswomen Association.
Organised by the Qatari Businesswomen Association with Interactive Business Network, the theme is ‘Business Women and the New Age of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Social Responsibility’.
“Women are pivotal to business, society, and family. They are key to the development of the business sector in Qatar and all over the world,” said Hiba Al Tamimi, GM Retail, QNB. “Hence, the bank appreciates all your efforts, and through its sponsorship of this event, acknowledges the important role women play in the economy. In her keynote speech, Sare Davutoglu, wife of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey, talked about the history of women and how her position was improved by Islam. She stressed on the importance of disseminating the education and how to balance between family and work, and provide awareness among the community of the woman role’s importance in the economic and social development.
More than 500 participants and visitors from 40 countries are attending the conference. The Forum aims to put forward and discuss key issues that greatly affect a growing number of businesswomen in Qatar and beyond. These include topics such as women empowerment, entrepreneurship, human development and corporate social responsibility. “I am always very impressed by the real developments Qatar has achieved and continues to promote the development of women — from the identification and creation of opportunities for them in the country, whether through education and in the academic fields, or in the entrepreneurship and the various professional private and public sectors, all under the wise initiative and guidance of H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned,” said Sana Bardawil, Director of Communication at Qatar Shell Companies.
