DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented 297 income-generating projects in Burkina Faso, benefiting 2,000 poor and unemployed people in remote areas.
The projects included agriculture, manual labour and ownership of livestock and benefited thousands.
A total of 100 cows were provided, along with 150 sewing machines, 40 ploughs and seven mills at a cost of QR560,000.
The projects targeted youth and women’s associations, young unemployed people, female-headed households, including widows and divorcees, and others experiencing difficult economic circumstances. They covered Ouagadougou, Zanyary, Dzimuru, Oaheguaa and Kiriba.
In a statement, Ouedraogo Salima, Mayor, Korzimuru, in the north of the capital, said: “QC is a development organisation that works with clarity and transparency and implements projects that work directly for the eradication of poverty and unemployment, especially for young people, women and people with special needs.”
She thanked QC, Qatar, its people, government and leadership for support and contributions to ease the burden of the poor and meet urgent and essential needs of thousands of needy families.
QC has many projects, including income-generating schemes, sewing machines for the Association of Wellbeing for Humanity in the capital, Ouagadougou, and a grain mill for Zemstaaba in the state of Yakovi. The projects focus on areas with a high concentration of poor people and include safe drinking water, construction of educational and health facilities, and educational, income-generating and seasonal schemes.
