Top Delhi Police officer attacked

New Delhi: A senior Delhi Police officer was yesterday attacked by three people, including a woman, in an incident of road rage here, police said. Amit Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Special Cell, was going to his office when his car was hit by another car in Nizamuddin area here. Singh’s driver got down from the car after it was hit and signalled the driver of the other vehicle to drive properly but he did not pay any attention and continued his rash driving. “Singh’s driver again went to him to make him understand which led to an altercation between them. Watching this, Singh came out from the vehicle to protect the driver. Meanwhile, a man on a motorcycle, who was probably with the minor driving the car also stopped there,” said the statement. He said the motorcycle-borne along with the minor and others attacked Singh with a helmet.
Govt plans to import potatoes 

New Delhi: To curb potato prices that are soaring in the ongoing festival season, the government has decided to boost availability of the staple item for the first time through imports. “We are taking all possible measures to control price rise in potato,” Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said here and added that the ministry is arranging to soon float tenders for the purpose so that shipments can arrive by next month. Potato prices have been on an upward trend across the country, except in the southern states. Retail prices in Delhi currently range between Rs35-Rs40 per kg.
Man jumps to death in Technopark
Thiruvananthapuram: A 29-year-old man working at an IT company in the Technopark campus jumped to death from the sixth floor of his office building yesterday. A press release issued by UST Global said that it was deeply saddened by the demise of Sreeraj Sashidharan. “He has been working here for three years and was a good performer. Colleagues rushed him to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival,” the release said.
Boy burnt to death over straying goat
PATNA: A low-caste teenage boy was burnt to death for letting his goat stray into paddy fields belonging to a high-caste farmer. Police arrested the farmer thought responsible for the attack on the 15-year-old boy, whose Mahadalit caste is the lowest in India. The boy, Sai Ram, was attacked on Wednesday night in a village in Rohtas district of Bihar. “Ram was first badly beaten by (the) accused and later set on fire.
