DOHA: Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros Co WLL (AAB), exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar, collaborated with Qatar Chess Association (QCA) to hold the second FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament in Qatar.

Named as AAB Chess Open Edition 2, the FIDE Rated Tournament brought in more Rated and Non-rated chess players in Qatar compared to the first tournament held in April. Organised to sustain the interest and passion of chess enthusiasts in the community, the tournament paved the way for the Rated players to improve their world ratings and for the Non-Rated players to get rated. From the previous tournament edition, six unrated players got their FIDE Rating.

Sixty-six participants ranging from age 6 and above with FIDE Rating under 2200 battled towards the Championship and special prizes at the Al Abdulghani Tower.

Yazan Mustafa, COO – C & I Division and Ali Abdul Razak Hashim General Secretary and member of the Board of Director of Qatar Chess Association (QCA), made the First Move. The tournament was played in 5 rounds Swiss System with 60 min + 30 sec/move timing for the whole game.

The winners of the AAB Chess Open Second Edition are :Ryan Mendoza (PHL), first place; Rolenson Loyola (PHL), second place; Enrique Naperi (PHL), third place; FM Boidiya Sidi (MTN), fourth place; and

Florian de Joya (PHL), fifth place.

Special prizes were given to Best Under 20, Best Under 12 and Best Female. Best Qatari Male, Best Qatari Female and Best Unrated Qatari were additional prizes in this second edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, the father and son tandem who garnered the highest combined score was also given recognition as Best Family. They were given the opportunity to a Weekend Test Drive of Toyota Land Cruiser VXS.

The Champion received a trophy, cash prize and a Weekend Test Drive of the Lexus RCF.

Mohammed Al Medaihki, Qatar Grand Master and President of QCA along with Hamad Al Tamimi, QCA Executive Director were present at the Prize Giving Ceremony.

Worthy to note is that a higher number of Qatari chess players joined the Tournament. The AAB Chess Open Edition 2 is a CSR initiative geared towards developing the community through sports.
