The Ministry of Public Health will host the third ‘Qatar Patient Safety Week’ with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of patient safety among all healthcare providers as well as the public.
The week-long event will begin on September 23, under the patronage of H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health. Qatar Patient Safety Week, is a national initiative created by the HealthCare Quality and Patient Safety Department (HQPS) and this year’s event will be held under the theme ‘United for Patient Safety.’
The event will include an opening ceremony at Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel and Villas, public awareness campaign, workshops, seminars and closing ceremony at the MoPH.
On the first day of the event, local and international experts will discuss topics such as, ‘The role of the MOPH in driving the national patient safety agenda in Qatar, ‘The power of leadership practice in transforming organizational culture,’ ‘Leadership and culture of safety’ and ‘Infection and prevention control.’
“Safety is a fundamental principle of patient care and an important component of quality management. Improving patient safety demands a complex system-wide effort, involving a wide range of actions in performance improvement, environmental safety and risk management; it includes all health care disciplines and sectors,” says MoPH.
“Therefore, it requires a comprehensive multifaceted approach to identifying and managing actual and potential risks to patient safety and finding broad long-term solutions for the health care system. This is highlighted in this year’s theme ‘United for Patient Safety’ through which the event aims to encourage strong collaboration between the MOPH, healthcare providers, consumers and all relevant stakeholders to ensure safer healthcare in Qatar,” the Ministry added.
The ‘Qatar Patient Safety Week’ is a Category 1 - Accredited Group Learning Activity as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners - Accreditation Department and is approved for 14.75 hours. Participating healthcare practitioners can only claim credits equivalent to the duration of their participation in the activity (for maximum total of 14.75 hours).
