Doha: The Turkish community in Doha on Thursday gathered at the embassy to mark the fifth anniversary of July 15 failed coup attempt in their country. 

The Turkish Ambassador in Doha H E Mustafa Goksu; H E Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Dean of Diplomatic corps and Ambassador of Eretria; H E  Fahed Salem Al Merri, representative of Director of Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and several other ambassadors were also present at the gathering held at the Turkey embassy in Doha. 

Two family members of martyrs of 15 July had flown from Turkey to attend the special event held in Doha. 

They were honoured during the event by Ambassadors Ibrahim Ahmed, Mustafa Goksu and Fahed Salem Al Merri.  A minute of silence was observed in honour of 251 people who died during the thwarted coup attempt in Turkey. 

In his speech Ambassador Mustafa Goksu pointed that for the Turkish people, July 15 reminds them of their determination to protect the country, nation and its democracy. 

He also lauded Qatar and its leadership for the support extended to Turkey.  Besides, photos of Turkey’s failed coup attempt were displayed during the event. It was a collection of dramatic images captured in  Ankara and Istanbul.
