Five QU health sciences graduates pass ASCP exam

Doha: More than 20 graduates from the Biomedical Sciences Programme at Qatar University College of Health Sciences have passed the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam in the past years, including over five last month.
The programme is the first accredited academic course outside the US by National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) since 2008.
This accreditation reflects the exceptional and standardised quality of education at the theoretical and practical levels. NAACLS certification testifies the excellence and brilliance in biomedical sciences, laboratory technology, patients’ safety and scopes of healthcare applications.
“The college aims to graduate a specialised generation in healthcare tracks who meets national and international standards to fulfil the increasing demand of scientists and scholars, and accomplish extraordinary achievements in the fields of clinical science and research.
“Our educational strategy perceives benchmarked and superior academic baseline to shape the desired competencies and meet the requirements of Qatar’s healthcare sector,” said Prof Asmaa Althani, Dean of the college and Director, Biomedical Research Centre, QU.
Dr Ahmad Malki, Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the college, said this significant success is an improvement milestone at the college and QU academic levels. The success refers to efforts towards establishing a state-of-the art academic scheme through well-structured study plans that comply with the accreditation requirements. “We invest in scholars and scientists to expand available capabilities and grant extra attention to detail in curricula, syllabi and courses at the college. The forthcoming academic implementations will further heighten in terms of the quality of our graduates.”
Dr Marwan Abu Madi, Associate Professor and Head, Biomedical Sciences Department, recognised the graduates who passed the ASCP exam and encouraged their fellows to take similar steps towards a future of excellence in the field of laboratory science. “We value our graduates and faculty who dedicated efforts towards this achievement which reflects the quality of education and clinical practice manoeuvres at the college along with our business partners, in particular, Hamad Medical Corporation.
