DOHA: Customs officials seized a huge amount of drugs from an Asian traveller at the Hamad International Airport recently.
One of the customs inspectors on duty became suspicious of a bag bought in by the Asian traveller.
When the officials inspected the bag they found that it was full of dry pepper. On further inspection they found 11kg of marijuana hidden inside the packets of dried pepper.
The customs department has transferred the case and the accused to concerned authorities.
Ahmed bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Chairman of the General Authority of Customs. honoured the inspector, whose alertness foiled the smuggling, and stressed on continuing the efforts to protect the country.
The General Authority of Customs is providing their employees at all their ports with continuous training in order to enhance their professionalism.
