Doha, Qatar: The Gulf Federation of Journalists has renewed its strong condemnation of the ongoing Iranian attacks targeting the interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, warning of the dangerous repercussions of the military escalation on regional and global stability.

In a second statement issued by the Federation, it stressed that the continued attacks represent a serious escalation and a blatant violation of state sovereignty, as well as a breach of the principles of good neighborliness. The Federation noted that such actions also constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.

The statement highlighted that the targeting of civilian facilities, economic installations, and critical infrastructure constitutes an aggressive act condemned by legal and humanitarian standards, as it exposes civilians to grave danger and causes significant damage to communities. The Federation added that the attacks have resulted in casualties and injuries among civilians, in addition to extensive damage to public and private property and vital facilities.

The Federation further warned that attacks on border crossings, energy facilities, transport routes, and supply chains pose a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, while also affecting international trade routes and global energy security. Such developments, it said, could negatively impact global trade flows and the stability of international markets.

Calling for international action, the Federation urged regional and international organizations to take a clear and firm stance in condemning the attacks and to work toward halting them, while adopting measures capable of deterring practices that threaten regional and international peace and stability. The Gulf Federation of Journalists also called on Arab and international institutions, federations, and professional bodies to express solidarity with the Gulf states in the face of violations targeting their security, stability, and economic and civilian assets.

The Federation commended the wisdom of the leaders of the GCC countries in managing the current developments and their responsible approach in avoiding escalation into a wider war while prioritising diplomatic solutions. At the same time, it affirmed the capability of the Gulf states to safeguard their security and sovereignty through the readiness of their security and military institutions.

It also praised the unity and national awareness demonstrated by the peoples of the Gulf countries in confronting the current circumstances, noting that such social cohesion strengthens the ability of Gulf societies to overcome ongoing challenges.

In conclusion, the Federation called on Gulf media outlets and journalistic institutions to uphold their professional and national responsibilities by supporting the Gulf position and confronting attempts to spread misinformation, distort facts, and sow division, stressing that the security and stability of the Gulf remain a fundamental pillar of Arab, regional, and international security.
