DOHA: A friendly with Thailand today will be the main preparation for Qatar’s national football team as they get ready for two away World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Qatari team will first travel to Manama to play Bahrain next Friday in the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers before they head to South Korea for a World Cup qualifiers fixture on March 26.
The players were given a day off on Friday by coach Fahad Thani before they resumed training yesterday and continue to train on daily basis until the game in Bahrain.
In a winning start to the Asian qualifiers, the boys in maroon overcame Malaysia 2-0 to top their group alongside Bahrain, who beat Yemen in the corresponding fixture.
Qatar sit fourth in their Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers’ group with seven points behind leaders Uzbekistan, South Korea and Iran.
They trail South Korea and Iran on goal difference, with the Koreans playing one game less.
Last week, Fahad-coached Qatar crushed Egypt 3-1 in an international friendly at Al Gharafa Stadium. It was Fahad’s third win as coach of Qatar.
Fahad replaced Brazilian Paulo Autuori who was removed as coach after Qatar failed to go past the group phase at 2013 Gulf Cup in Bahrain.
