Doha: The prestigious HH The Amir Sword Festival 2022 will return to grand action at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club’s Al Rayyan Racecourse starting today.
Bouncing back from the pandemic, this year’s Festival has the participation of 15 international horses besides the GCC formidables. The overall Festival activities will also be held on a larger scale.
Welcoming the Festival, QREC Chairman HE Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi said, “The event itself will be different in terms of quality and size. We welcome back activities that we use to have earlier. We have some special shows and traditional horse-racing shows. Also, we have chosen some of the local designers as part of the festival.”
The draw for the Amir Sword Festival races was held at the Al Hazm yesterday evening.
The QREC announced that Al Hazm will sponsor the feature race of the final day of the Festival, the HH The Amir Sword race, which is Qatar’s premier Group One contest for Purebred Arabians.

The final line-up for the feature event of the HH The Amir Sword Festival, (Gr1 PA) - Purebred Arabian (3rd leg of the Triple Crown) is on display.
This sponsorship is an extension of the partnership, which has existed between QREC and Al Hazm for 12 years, reflecting the extent of cooperation between the two parties and their aspiration to achieve more successes, especially as this sponsorship contributed to supporting many of the races organised by QREC over the past years.
Al Hazm’s sponsorship of the Gold Sword race, as one of the most important and awaited events of the three-day Festival at Al Rayyan Racecourse, will naturally enhance the rivalry between the owners, trainers and jockeys participating in finale of the Festival.
Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, QREC Chairman, said: “The continuation of cooperation with the sponsoring companies and their keenness to support the His Highness The Amir Sword Festival is a key factor in achieving our goals and the great success we look forward to, given the Festival’s importance and positive impact on the racing season in Qatar in general."
"The growing international representation in the Festival demonstrates the strength and significance of the Festival year after year. Cooperation has already been there with Al Hazm, represented by Mr Mohammed Abdul Karim Al Emadi, CEO of Al Emadi Enterprises and Al Hazm, whom I would like to thank for such cooperation, as evidenced by his keenness to participate in sponsoring the His Highness the Amir Sword Festival for several years now," he added.
"This year Al Hazm will sponsor the main race, the His Highness The Amir Sword. From our side, we have recently completed all the organisational arrangements for hosting the Festival to produce this prestigious event in a manner befitting its stature and the standing of Qatar’s horse racing as well,” the QREC Chairman said.
Mohammed Abdul Karim Al Emadi, CEO of Al Emadi Enterprises and Al Hazm, said: “We are proud to sponsor the Gold Sword in the final race of the prestigious Festival following our previous successful experiences in the event and in this race in particular."
"It is a great honour for Al Hazm to be once again partners in this precious Festival, and our highest honour and privilege is certainly to shake hands with His Highness the Amir at the end of the Festival, which we expect to be a huge success as it has always been over years of cooperation between Al Hazm and QREC, setting an exemplary model befitting the mutual objectives of both parties," he added.
“Sponsoring QREC’s activities is not new to Al Hazm. We always seek to be the first to support and contribute to QREC’s various racing events out of our sense of national responsibility and our commitment to fulfil such responsibility," said Al Emadi.
