The Board of Trustees of Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQM) yesterday announced the appointment of Kees Wieringa (pictured) as the new Director of the Museum.
“I am delighted to have Mr Kees Wieringa joining our leadership team at the Museum,” said Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani.
“He is a highly respected professional whose extensive experience and knowledge will bring important insights to build onto the Museum’s success, ensuring it will continue to preserve and share Qatar’s cultural heritage.”
Wieringa was born and raised in The Netherlands, where he studied music and art at Amsterdam University. He was previously director of the Kranenburgh Museum in Bergen where he oversaw the collections, supervised research and scholarly symposia, undertook renovations and was responsible for the release of high-profile exhibitions.
As FBQM’s new director, Wieringa is responsible for the growth of the curatorial and conservation departments, the creation of a collections management system, the design and installation of the new galleries of the Museum, the launch of an extensive programme of exhibitions and the creation of the Museum's innovative educational programmes as well as the day-to-day management of the Museum.
