Egyptian-Qatari Investment Forum convenes in Cairo

Cairo, Egypt: The Egyptian-Qatari Investment Forum convened in Cairo on Sunday, with leaders from chambers of commerce and a number of businesspeople and investors from both countries taking part.

The forum was co-chaired by Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs H E Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt H E Eng. Hassan El Khatib.

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry highlighted that the forum is being held at a time of rapid growth in economic relations between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, reflecting their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and expanding the horizons of sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs stated that the forum embodies the deep ties between the two brotherly countries and their keenness to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to raise the levels of trade exchange and promote joint projects and investments in a way that serves the interests of both sides.

His Excellency also noted the growing Qatari investments in Egypt, particularly in the real estate development, tourism, financial services, and energy sectors, affirming confidence in the Egyptian economy and its future prospects. He also highlighted the projects of Qatari Diar and its role in supporting economic development and providing job opportunities, reflecting the depth of the economic partnership between the two countries. He called on Egyptian businesspeople and companies to take advantage of the distinguished investment environment offered by the State of Qatar and to use it as a strategic platform for expansion into Asian markets.

He also stressed the importance of activating the Qatari-Egyptian Business Council as a key platform for developing trade and investment partnerships, in addition to exploring the possibility of signing a free trade agreement with the Arab Republic of Egypt within the frameworks adopted by the League of Arab States to contribute to facilitating the flow of goods and services and supporting the integration of supply chains.

On the sidelines of the forum the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of senior Egyptian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry H E Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade H E Eng. Hassan El Khatib, and a number of businesspeople. During these meetings, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation, develop joint projects, and explore future opportunities.

Qatar Chamber (QC) participated in the Forum, with a delegation headed by QC’s First Vice-Chairman Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari and included a number of board members and Qatari business leaders.
