The Ninth Katara Traditional Dhow Festival has been witnessing huge turnout since its opening on December 3.
Due to popularity and huge public response, the ninth Katara Traditional Dhow Festival is extended until tomorrow, organisers announced yesterday. The festival is open from 9am to 12noon, and from 3pm to 10pm. Culturally unique and for the first time being held for over two weeks, the festival has been bustling with activities including maritime competitions, dhow cruises, traditional market, display of traditional sea fishing methods, food, dance and music.
Having grown exponentially over the years, the dhow festival has been witnessing large turnout. Inspired by Qatar’s rich maritime heritage, this year’s festival has over ten countries including Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq and Zanzibar participating having built culturally attractive tents. The fair hits busy note right since the mornings with dhow boats making the waters come alive with their charm and attraction.
And in the evenings, the traditional fishermen make the festival come alive with customary depiction of seafarers going home, and with lights and music leading to stage story-telling and traditional shows.
