DOHA: Reach Out to Asia (Rota) has signed collaboration agreements with CARE and Silatech for a three-way partnership on a project in Yemen, to improve economic opportunities for Yemen’s youth.
Through training and mentorship, the project aims at providing youth with relevant business skills training, entrepreneurship orientation and linkages to youth-friendly financial services, ultimately allowing youth to capitalize on their skills through self-employment.
The project will benefit youth over a two-year period in seven rural and urban districts in Sana’a and Hajja. The project began in mid-November 2013 and will run until 2015, with a total budget of $1.2m provided by Rota with a contribution from CARE.
Building on its successful microenterprise programing in Yemen, the program will work with Silatech and its partners to provide technical assistance, skills training and access to youth financial services. “The partnership between the three organizations is a major step, and the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. Our organisational strengths mutually complement each other very well, but perhaps most importantly, we all recognize the need to promote innovative new approaches to promoting sustainable long-term development for the Arab world,” said Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director of Rota.
Rota will look at providing technical assistance in designing and implementing projects for training and skills development and volunteering initiatives.
