DOHA: In a world where cultural understanding is more vital than ever, the Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center stands as a beacon of education and dialogue. One of the Center’s most impactful initiatives is its Arabic language programme for non-native speakers — a series of courses that not only teach the language but also serve as a gateway to deeper appreciation of Arab culture and Islamic values. Thousands have benefited from these courses over the last five years.
The Center, operating under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar, has long been committed to promoting mutual respect, coexistence, and meaningful cultural exchange. The Arabic courses are a key part of this mission, offering expatriates and visitors in Qatar the chance to learn one of the world’s most widely spoken and culturally rich languages in an inclusive, welcoming environment.
Arabic courses for non-native speakers encompass six levels. Spoken level for teaching speaking in standard Arabic for daily life uses. 1, 2, 3 levels and these levels are divided to a and b levels with teaching all skills. Fees are QR300 per course. We have normal duration courses and intensive duration courses. Normal duration courses last for 2 months and a half, with two classes a week. Intensive duration courses last for one month with four classes a week.
The language courses are designed for learners at all proficiency levels — from complete beginners to advanced speakers. They are taught by experienced instructors who use modern, interactive teaching methods to ensure that students gain practical communication skills, while also learning about the cultural and historical contexts of the Arabic language. Lessons cover speaking, reading, writing, and listening, with a strong focus on real-life usage and conversation.
What sets this programme apart is its holistic approach. In addition to classroom instruction, students are invited to participate in cultural events, mosque tours, and workshops that offer firsthand experience of Qatari traditions and Islamic teachings. These activities help bridge the gap between language and culture, and encourage students to engage more confidently and respectfully with the local community.
The diversity of the student body is a testament to the programme’s wide appeal. Learners come from various nationalities, professional backgrounds, and age groups, united by a shared interest in language, culture, and understanding. Whether someone is looking to enhance their career, connect with local society, or simply explore a new culture, the Center provides an ideal platform.
