Doha: The preparations to celebrate the International Workers’ Day on May 1 have been completed under the theme “Qatar’s Contributions to Protect Rights of Workers” and the centenary of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The ILO and a number of Ministries as well as public and private sector institutions will participate in the event, which will be held on May 1 under the patronage of H E the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
The ceremony will witness the announcement of the winners of 6th edition award. The award committee includes the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs; Ministry of Interior; Public Works Authority; Qatar Chamber; Qatar Foundation; Hamad Medical Corporation and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC). During the ceremony, a working session will be held to discuss modern standards and practices to protect workers’ rights and new legislations issued by the State of Qatar, in addition to highlighting the role of Qatari companies in the field of workers’ rights.
Qatar has achieved a lot in the field of protecting workers’ rights and the conference comes at a when many international organisations are appreciating Qatar’s role in this regard. Qatar has become a model for ensuring the rights of workers and adopting the best standards for workers’ care based on a series of laws and regulations issued in recent months.
The conference will be held in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and contribute to spreading awareness and commitment to the basic principles of workers’ rights by establishing the values of proper dealing with workers by governmental and private bodies.
It aims to develop public awareness on the importance of dealing with workers and labour systems and to contribute to the definition of laws and procedures adopted by the State of Qatar in the framework of guaranteeing the rights of workers. It will also encourage initiatives aimed at creating a healthy and safe environment for workers.
The objectives of the conference also include documenting institutional contributions to the Qatar National Vision 2030 on the rights of workers. It also aims at creating sustainable employment projects, and to open channels of dialogue between the private sector and relevant government agencies and communities working in the State.
