Junior players taking part in the Qatar Primary Schools Chess Tournament for girls, at the Jawaan Bin Jassim Model Independent School for Boys, yesterday.
Doha: Indian chess prodigy, Amulya Guruprasad had a brilliant unbeaten run to clinch the Qatar Primary Schools Chess title for girls, at the Jawaan Bin Jassim Model Independent School for Boys yesterday.
Amulya beat her compatriots, Ann Mary Thomas, Pooja Rajkumar, Shreya Sandeep, Crizelle Pinto, Aashika Sudha and Aakanksha Neeraj to maintain her supremacy.
Neeraj won the silver medal of the competition winning five out of her six rounds (25.0) while Qatari player Rawda Qassabi finished third.
Doha Modern Indian School won the team championship with 11 points ahead of Newton British Academy, Barwa was placed second. Birla Public School and Indian School shared the third spot.
A total of 76 players, including 21 Qatari girls under the age of 12, representing 20 schools, took part in the yesterday’s event, organised by the Qatar School Sports Association and Qatar Chess Association
The boys’ tournament will take place at the same venue today.
