Yaounde: At least 55 people were killed and around 575 others were injured in Cameroon's train crash in the tourist capital Yaounde.

A source in Cameroon's Ministry of Transport said that many of the wounded were in critical condition.

Reasons behind the incident is still unknown, the ministry said.

Transport Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o announced earlier that the train, overcrowded due to traffic interruptions between the two cities following the collapse of a bridge, veered off the rails causing huge human and material losses.
