DOHA: A large number of boys took part in the Under-12 Junior Cricket Camp organised by Qatar Cricket Association under the sponsorship of the Asian Cricket Council.
Under the banner of Qatar Olympic Committee, QCA, headed by M A Shahid, its president, organised the camp at West End Park Cricket Stadium on February 1, 2014. The Stadium was divided into seven grounds where the boys were given different kinds of training. The camp aimed at identifying young talent and grooming it.
The camp was a big success as 250 enthusiastic boys from 12 schools and colleges in Qatar participated with dedication and zeal. The QCA deployed 10 coaches, including three women, to develop the boys’ basic cricketing skills.
QCA General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad expressed his delight at the large number of trainees turning up for the camp. “We’re delighted that such a huge number of boys showed their interest in cricket. All the trainees displayed their keenness to improve their cricketing skills and sense. We’ll prepare their details so that QCA can approach them for future grooming. We at the QCA want to thank the Asian Cricket Council for helping a great deal in tapping the talent. I’m sure that this camp will impact positively on their skills,” he said.
Manzoor Ahmad, Gul Mohammad Khan Jadoon, head of domestic cricket; Malik Nazar Mohammad, technical advisor; Aminul Islam; Mariam Gul Khan; Shivani Mishra; Paramjeet; and Nazia Nazir supervised the camp.
The children were from the following schools: Pak Shamaa School & College, Bright Future Pakistani International School, DPS Modern Indian School, Sherborne Qatar School, Dukhan English School, Doha College, The Cambridge School, Bangladesh MHM School and College, Birla Public School, Pakistan Education Centre, Ideal Indian School, and MES Indian School.
