In 2018, Al Khor Hospital cared for over 350,000 patients across its emergency department, various outpatient departments, and day care, radiology and dialysis units.
“With the diverse and growing community in the northern region of Qatar, Al Khor Hospital continues to provide high-quality healthcare services across its emergency department, intensive care unit, and pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, radiology, dermatology, psychiatry and surgery departments,” said Mohammed Al Jusaiman, Al Khor Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.
Al Jusaiman, who is also Deputy Chief of HMC’s General Hospital Group, Al Khor Hospital has launched a number of new services in recent years to meet the needs of the growing population. He said changes have also been made to revamp scheduling processes and improve methods of care delivery as part of a larger strategy to streamline existing services and reduce waiting times.
“Last year we re-equipped our ENT Snoring and Swallowing Clinic to allow us to receive patients throughout the week and we introduced additional clinics.
We also launched a new pre-operative clinic for our Medicine and Cardiology Departments to ensure continuity of care and help prevent delays in treating patients who are scheduled for surgical procedures.
The pre-operative clinic has helped to reduce waiting times from five to eight weeks to one to three weeks,” said Al Jusaiman.
Other new clinics introduced at Al Khor Hospital last year include a Hematology Clinic, which is operated in collaboration with the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), a Headache Clinic, launched under the neurology service, a Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) clinic, a Post-Discharge Clinic for patients cared for by the Medicine and Urology Departments, and a General Surgery Clinic.
There were also additional clinics added for a number of existing services, including obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, neurology, dental and orthopedics.
Al Jusaiman added that Al Khor Hospital’s Breastfeeding Resource Center is currently working towards recognition as a baby-friendly hospital from the World Health Organization. He said in addition to introducing a number of new services, the hospital has added new equipment that is helping to ensure cutting-edge patient care.
Al Jusaiman noted that there are plans to introduce a number of new services this year, including the opening of an intravenous (IV) room as part of the pharmacy service, specialist labor and delivery clinics, and a pain management clinic.
Opened in 2005, Al Khor Hospital is a 115-bed general hospital. The community-based hospital currently has over 180 doctors and 550 nurses and midwives who provide high-quality specialised care to the population living outside Doha.
