CNA-Q hosts meeting to advance standards in oil and gas industry

Doha: College of the North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q) recently brought together experts from industry and field of education for an international meeting to develop standards for coating and lining of equipment and structures in the oil and gas industry.
It was the eighth meeting of the working group (WG11) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC 67), which is specialised in materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries, and supported by the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP0.
Corrosion and materials engineering specialist, Hanan Farhat, from CNA-Q’s School of Engineering Technology and the Office of Applied Research and Innovation, was the principal host of the meeting. Representatives of local and international oil and gas companies, as well as coating manufacturers from various countries, and the Qatar General Organisation for Standardization (QS) attended the meeting. The group approved new standard proposals and discussed amendments for two coating and lining standards, as well as drafted resolutions for the Committee. The measures discussed at this meeting will set the standards for all the oil and gas producers around the world. This international working group (WG11) have been meeting in Qatar since 2010.  
Farhat said, “It is a pride for Qatar to be a major contributor to the creation of international oil and gas standards. CNA-Q, being the State’s premier college for technical education and applied research, has a long history of, and a wealth of experience in, working closely with the industry partners to resolve corrosion issues, failure analysis and materials selection for better asset integrity.”
