A total of 45 trainees from different professions, including lawyers, legal consultants and advisers, Qatar University law graduates, and experts along with employees from different ministries, banks and insurance companies are taking part in the Qualification and Preparation of Arbitrators 2017 programme.
The first stage of the professional arbitration programme 2017, which is also known as “the Professional Certificate” was launched yesterday at Qatar Chamber in the presence of Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Board Member, and Ahmed Najem Abdulla Al Najem, Secretary-General of the GCC Arbitration Center. Last year's programme trained some 30 experts and a majority of them were Qataris from private and government institutions, including four from QU.
The training programme, consisting of five levels, which started yesterday and will end on April 12, is organised by Qatar International Center for Conciliation & Arbitration in cooperation with GCC Arbitration Center “Dar Al Karar”. The training programme aims to prepare and qualify Qatari and GCC arbitrators to take responsibility for settling commercial and financial disputes between individuals or companies and play complementary role to the ordinary courts. Trainers include Qatari legal experts and famous lawyers.
The training programme has attracted participants from Qatar and other GCC states and will cover theoretical and practical issues, holding workshops on how to prepare arbitration agreements which is important for settling commercial disputes. The rehabilitation level of the course also includes alternative means for settling disputes away from judiciary, types of arbitrations and role of willingness of parties in materialising the court decision.
The second stage of the programme, “Procedures and arbitration lawsuit management”, will address the procedures followed for arbitration, establishment of jury, difference between free arbitration and institutional one.
The third stage of the programme is “The method of making the verdict and origin of its drafting”, and the fourth level is under the title of “implementation of verdict and invalidity of the verdict”. The fifth and final levels of the programmes are under theme of “Sham trail” where trainees will be provided with actual cases along with documents to establish jury, study and make the suitable decision.
Informed source from the arbitration centre pointed out that some legal experts from countries out of GCC like Sudan will take part in the third level of the training programme. The first level of the programme will end on January 18, and take place every evening from 5pm to 10pm.
