DOHA: Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), which in making final preparations for its 15th international annual Al Bawasil Camp for children with diabetes, will accept admission from Qatari participants until January 20.
Boys and girls from Qatar aged between seven and 11 years can register by calling 44547311 or 44547333.
Al Bawasil International Spring Camp is part of QF initiatives that promote healthcare through education and awareness about prevalent health problems and provide effective ways to deal with them.
The camp has been supporting QF on its mission to be a catalyst for change by fostering and supporting children and parents to commit to positive health behaviours all through the past 14 years.
Al Bawasil, which takes place from January 31 to February 5 at Aspire Academy, Doha, is the largest camp in the region that brings together children with diabetes from across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region and beyond for a week-long learning and activity-driven experience.
QDA is organising the camp so that diabetic children from different countries can gather, share experiences and improve their knowledge of the disease.
The programme is designed to help participants lead a healthy lifestyle, build confidence in managing the condition and grow to become active members of their community.
The camp has a daily programme of education and fun activities supervised by a specialised medical team.
Workshops and other activities will also form part of the camp, with some held in collaboration with the academy to highlight the importance of sport in controlling the effects of diabetes.
Children from Qatar, as the host nation, Sudan, Afghanistan, Morocco, Pakistan, Iraq, India, Lebanon, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Palestine will take part and those from the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Libya are also expected to participate.
