DOHA: Qatar and South Korea agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation and exchange of expertise in the third High-Level Strategic Cooperation Committee Meeting between Qatar and South Korea held here yesterday.
The meeting was held under the co-chairmanship of Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada and the South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Yoon Sang-jick.
The meeting is a follow up of agreements reached during the previous two summit meetings between the leaders of the two countries — Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Park Geun-hye in November 2014 and March 2015.
The two sides discussed aspects of mutual cooperation in various sectors such as energy, trade, investment, industry, infrastructure, engineering and construction, science, technology, and information technology.
“Both countries are undertaking strong economic structural reforms in an effort to diversify our economic structure, so I hope to step up our cooperation in economic field. There have been structural changes in the global energy market, therefore there is stronger need to stabilise and enhance the predictability of the oil and gas market and not only that I believe that there is much room for cooperation between two sides and also in the areas of nuclear smart grids and new energy sources,” said Yoon Sang-jick in the meeting. “Furthermore, we are joining international efforts in towards anti-terrorist activities. Therefore, it would be ever more important to cooperate in the public security between our two sides.”
“I hope that today’s delegation gathered will not only facilitate our traditional areas of cooperation such as energy and construction but also seek new opportunities for cooperation in the industry, IT, medicine and other public security sector so that we can produce tangible outcomes,” he added.
The two sides expressed satisfaction over the progress of relations between the two countries in various fields and the continuation of work to develop them. The meeting was attended by officials from energy, industry, trade, investment, infrastructure, factory construction, science, IT, communications, national defence, public security, education, youth exchange, tourism, health care, medical science and the public sector.
