Al Sadd crush Lekhwiya; Al Arabi win

DOHA: Qatar Stars League (QSL) points leaders Al Sadd got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-0 win over defending champions Lekhwiya, yesterday. 

Raul, Ibrahim Al Majed and Khalfan Ibrahim were the goal-scorers for Al Sadd. The win keeps Al Sadd in first place, with 31 points.

Elsewhere in other QSL action, Al Arabi picked up maximum points for the first time this season with a 2-1 win over Al Wakra. The win moves Al Arabi to 10th place in the standings.

Meanwhile, Diego Tardelli scored the only goal of the match to give Al Gharafa a 1-0 win over Qatar SC, in what was their second straight victory. 

Al Gharafa occupies fifth spot in the standings with 15 points. 

Al Sadd got off to a tremendous start, putting Lekhwiya, under pressure from the first whistle.

Hussein Amute did not have to wait long for his side to go ahead when captain Raul gave Al Sadd the lead in the 4th minute.

The Spanish striker smartly controlled a throw-in and turned his marker away to whip an unstoppable shot past Lekhwiya’s goalkeeper Baba Malik.

It was the fifth goal for the former Real Madrid and Schalke 04 striker this season.

Al Sadd players continued to dominate, putting Malik under pressure, who was not have the best of days in goal.

Amute’s side doubled their lead in the 15th minute courtesy of a free-kick by Al Majed. 

The Al Sadd player, drilled in a low shot which Malik was unable to keep out.

Later in the match, Khalfan scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-0. 

Elsewhere, Al Arabi who sacked Hassan Shehata as coach earlier this month, opened the scoring the 10th minute with a Junior Wanderley strike. 

The Brazilian took the ball past several Al Wakra players and slotted the ball home.

Al Arabi soon found themselves 2-0 up when Abdul Aziz Al Sulaiti scored in the 34th minute.

Al Wakra managed to find a goal in the 54th minute through Ali Rehama. 

However, Al Wakra could not find the equaliser.

In the match between Al Gharafa and Qatar SC, Tardelli opened the proceedings early in the second half after delightfully controlling a long pass to strike the ball past the Qatar SC goalkeeper.

It was the fourth goal for Tardelli, after the Brazilian, who joined the club in January this year, scored a hat-trick against Al Sailiyah last week.
